TROJANS AND VIRUSES CAN SLOW DOWN LIFE ITSELF!

Just an hour ago, I decided to update my anti-virus and run a full scan. I have a  powerful computer with 1TB of storage, 4GB of memory powered with the latest multi-core processor plus a 1GB graphic card. I need not to mention the brands and the specifications so as not to brag too much. Amidst this, my PC is so slow! Tsk!

Anyway, I was a little bothered more after having a 12Mbps Cable DSL subscription plus my 2Mbps backup DSL, my internet browser loads pages too slow. At some point, it keeps on hanging although I have always kept my OS updated of patches. Thus, I decided to suspect that it could be a virus or a Trojan messing up my system.

Well, after an hour or two, I got a long list of detected viruses and Trojans. I was so busy lately that I forgot about scanning my system for such culprits. Indeed, you cannot be so safe even in the virtual world amidst being equipped with the latest gadgets. One has to do preventive and maintenance checks for assurance.

In life, you should always find time to secure your territory for safety and for victory as well. You cannot almost always rely on the usual. Amidst silence and normalcy, you should always be ready to better your defenses because enemies love to attack by surprise. Traitors as they are, you have to be prepared. Leeches lurks!

I’LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!

I woke up so early today. I could not sleep well. I got up at 3AM to watch TV and surf. I was restless. I still cannot help but think about my bad dream yesterday afternoon. I saw my maternal grandmother being rushed to a hospital due to heart attack while hearing that my paternal grandmother was taken by relatives to UST hospital and was in a coma. Later, I learned that she did not make it.

I cried and cried until I woke up. I was like a child. It’s good that it was all just a dream – a bad dream indeed. I have been missing Christmas in my home town for the last 2 years now and both my grandfathers died in 2000 and 2009 without me having spent Christmas with them for the last time. They even died on the days I was supposed to be visiting them.

In my dream, I knew that I was just dreaming. Within that dream, I thought of waking up to validate that it was just a dream and I even decided to travel to the province to spend time with my grandmothers after waking up. Well, that too was a dream. It was like dreaming while you are dreaming of something bad. It sounds redundant but indeed, I get to dream while I am dreaming. Weird!

I’m spending the holidays in Davao. Why? My in-laws were both older than my parents. I EVEN dreamt sometime August 2009 that my father-in-law died due to heart attack so I suggested that we spend Christmas with them again this year. Last October 2009, he died of heart attack. He had his best ever Christmas for the past 2 years and it was on 2008 that we all had real fun. Perhaps, he knew he was going.

Just after his wake and as we were about to go back to Manila, my wife’s grandfather sung me a song. He was singing something about goodbye and not seeing each other again. He is quite old so I got worried. Without even thinking, I replied back by singing… I’LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS. It was a tear-jerking moment for me but indeed that song was a promise I have to fulfill.

Like promises I made to my beloved grandfathers, I wanted to spend time with people who are old enough that at times, we have to think that each holidays are to be celebrated as if it were their lasts. I married someone who lives at the southern tip of the Philippines while I come from the north. Thus, I have to miss some moments with my own relatives in the province including my parents and siblings.

I do hope that come 2010, I will get to have more time spending the holidays in my native province or at least impose an alternate scheme just to balance the equation. I will be turning 30 come 4 days from now and I want to maximize time as well with every member of the family. I know I am just an hour away from my home town but I cannot even regularly visit our place because of work and my own family.

To end, I know that it is quite hard to sing I WILL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS when you have to homes – your home town and your wife’s. Nonetheless, I know that location is irrelevant. With the advance technology we have nowadays, I can just send a video message to all or a simple SMS just to put a smile to their faces. But then again, I hope that I can spend more Christmas as well with my 2 grandmothers.

ADVOCATEE – WEAR YOUR ADVOCACY NOW!

AdvocaTEE logo

Just two weeks ago, Sheryll, a classmate of mine from elementary to high school sent me a chat message via Facebook asking for some help. I failed to respond. Days after, I saw the images below in her photo tab about advocaTEE, her newest venture perhaps and so I checked. Guilty of non-response, I decided to blog about her baby!

I have yet to get full detail from her about advocaTEE so I can write more about it but one thing is for sure, the shirt designs are really great. I was planning to do the same business when I designed our AMP shirts last year and thought of distributing GAME SHIRTS for our internet gaming business but I was too busy.

Anyway, I am writing this blog article not just to fulfill my promise to my Beauty Queen friend Sheryll that I will help promote her baby by blogging about it but because I personally like the concept itself. Cool and catchy! Imagine a shirt that can speak for you! Astig! So start wearing your advocacy… Get your advocaTEE now!

VIDEO: LADY GAGA – FOUR YEARS AGO

Before Lady Gaga was Stefani Germanotta. Check her video taken 4 years ago while she was performing for New York University’s annual talent show with two songs she wrote herself.

She ended up in third place. After her performance, one of the judges says: “Norah Jones, look out!” Little did she know that Lady Gaga would not be making Norah Jones-ish music at all.

SUSAN BOYLE – I DREAMED A DREAM

INTRODUCTION: THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS

Christopher Gardner: Hey. Don’t ever let somebody tell you… You can’t do something. Not even me. All right?
Christopher: All right.
Christopher Gardner: You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.

I am in tears now. I have heard about Susan Boyle prior but that’s for a laugh until I decided to check YOUTUBE for her performance at Britains Got Talent 2009. I tried watching it over again and again and I still get all the tear-jerking moments. You know what? Now I know that YOU CAN NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER! True indeed!

This was a performance that made my cry. Not just because she was so good but because she was laughed at in the beginning of the show as an underdog judged by her appearance and age. At 47, she seem to be out of place standing in the middle of a stage competing with other equally good performers.

The audience was a bit cynical initially. They laughed at her and even made faces. Well, they must have been wondering why an old unmarried Scottish lady was in front of them looking less serious trying to dream of being a professional singer as successful as Elaine Paige. Everyone was waiting for her to squawk like a duck. They failed!

Amidst the contrast between her powerful voice and her plain appearance on stage, Susan Boyle never stopped dreaming. From the audience’s not-so-good first impression of her until the standing ovation she received after her performance, she gave us the “biggest wake-up call ever”.

Boyle’s performance was a victory for talent and artistry in a culture obsessed with physical attractiveness and presentation. No wonder she has been topping the charts passing all other famous singers in UK and US. Indeed, SHE DREAMED A DREAM THAT WAS MEANT A REALITY FOR HER. No more LES MISERABLES for SUSAN BOYLE!

PHONE REVIEW: iPHONE 3GS, BLACKBERRY BOLD, PALM PRE AND NOKIA N97

iPhone 3GS vs BlackBerry Bold vs Palm Pre vs Nokia N97 : A Detailed Comparative Study

By soumitra

The mobile phone market is crowded by hundreds of mobile phone manufacturers with their thousands of phone models but if you know anything about mobile phones you must have heard the names of iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm Pre and Nokia N97. These phones are four most hyped phones from four major manufactures like Apple, RIM, Palm and Nokia. We have made a detailed examination of the features of these phones and compared their strengths and weaknesses. Let’s take a closer look at these phones and decide which one you should go for.

Smart Phones

1. Design

iPhone 3GS : The full touchscreen design of iPhone has made a revolution in the cellphone design. There are now more than a hundred clones of the iPhone available in the market. The iPhone clones are selling only because they look like iPhone. The weight of 135g feels just right.
BlackBerry Bold : The Blackberry Phones look much smarter than before. The evolved design of Blackberry Bold or Blackberry Storm can look as glamorous as any other phones. It weighs nearly same as iPhone at 133g.
Palm Pre : The design of the phone is less boxy than any other smartphone. Holding the phone in hand gives me a good pebble like feeling. It is also a good looking phone to compete with others. It also weighs the same as the above two at 133g.
Nokia N97 : This is the most beautiful phone Nokia has ever produced. Its slim look and glamorous finish has won the hearts of many. I am also one of them. It weighs a little more than all others at 150g. However the weight gives a nice sturdy feeling about the device.
Conclusion : No one wins in this field. Each phone has its own unique design essence and it is more of a personal preference which one you would like. However iPhone reserves some praise for their revolutionary design.

blackberry_bold

2. Display

iPhone 3GS : The iPhone has 3.5 inch screen and a resolution of 320 X 480 pixels. The display is capable to show off 16M colors and the overall impression is that it is an excellent screen with rich natural and vibrants colors with crisp image.
BlackBerry Bold : It has a little small screen measuring 2.6 inches to make room for the full QWERTY keyboard. However the pixel count is the same as the iPhone at 480 X 320 pixels. The color count is not at par with its competitors and is only capable to show off 65K colors. In simple word, the display is not as classy as the others.
Palm Pre : The Palm Pre screen measure at 3.1 inches and has the same resolution as the above two at 320 X 480 pixels. The display is able to show off 16M colors and is as good as the display of the iPhone.
Nokia N97 : The display size of the device is same as the iPhone at 3.5 inches. It also shows 16M color but the resolution is way more than its competitors. The resolution of 360 X 640 means the display is very very sharp and clear and has more room to show things than other devices.
Conclusion : The N97’s display is a clear winner here with iPhone and Palm Pre following closely and BlackBerry lagging behind.

slide-down-n973. Keyboard

iPhone 3GS : No hardware keyboard for this phone. There is a virtual keyboard for typing text but it takes time to master the art of typing fast and accurate in this keyboard. The touches are not always registered and it becomes very fuzzy at times. There is a error correction system but it is not accurate for a large number of mistakes.
BlackBerry Bold : Blackberry comes with a full QWERTY keyboard from its birth. Except the Blackberry Storm every Blackberry has the full QWERTY keyboard covering half of its entire face. Typing in the Blackberry keyboard is a pleasure with sure and fast response.
Palm Pre : Palm Pre also boasts a slide out QWERTY keyboard but the keys are small and those biggies with fat fingers will have problem typing in its keyboard. I was able to press as many as four keys with my thumb.
Nokia N97 : The N97 also comes with a slide out keyboard but the keys are not as small as the Palm Pre and and there is enough space between the keys for a comfortable typing. However, during our review, sometimes the keys did not register with soft presses and we needed to press it a little harder to get a sure type.
Conclusion : Blackberry is a sure winner here with its excellent keyboard followed by Nokia N97 and Palm Pre. Also Blackberry wins at the keyboard accessibility. There is no need to slide out the keyboard to get things done.

blackberrybold4. Memory capacity

iPhone 3GS : There are two models with 32GB and 16GB capacity of internal memory. No Card Slot. RAM capacity is 256 MB.
BlackBerry Bold : It has an internal memory of 1GB and External Micro SD cards are supported up to 8 GB. RAM capacity is 128 MB.
Palm Pre : It has an internal memory of 8GB and no card slot to extend the memory.
Nokia N97 : It has an internal memory of 32GB and is expandable with a 16GB MicroSD Card to make it a total of 48GB. The RAM capacity is 128 MB.
Conclusion : The iPhone has enough memory to store all your favorite music and videos but N97 even exceeds that limit with its whopping total of 48GB.

nokia-vs-apple

5. Application Availability

iPhone 3GS : No comparison is complete without a mention of Apple’s App Store. iPhone is the easiest platform to develop application for. This is why there are thousands of developers developing millions of apps for the iPhone.
BlackBerry Bold : Developers of BlackBerry Applications use outdated tools that doesn’t give them enough access to the Core APIs on BlackBerry Handsets. But there are some apps that are very useful to the Blackberry users. For example you can have look at these top BlackBerry Storm Apps.
Palm Pre : Palm Pre supports many of its old Palm Apps and they are developing new apps for Palm Pre also.
Nokia N97 : The N97 comes with preloaded Ovi Store to easily pick up any apps. You can also pick up any programs from wherever you like online unlike iPhone which lets you choose apps only from Apple’s own app store.
Conclusion : Though they Apple is not open like Nokia but still the amount of apps that are available for iPhone makes it a winner in this category.

iphone-blackberry

6. Connectivity

iPhone 3GS : The device is capable of communicating over Quad Band GSM network supporting frequency bands of 850/900/1800/1900. It is also a 3G HSDPA enabled handset with frequency bands of 850/1900/2100 bands. The HSDPA Speed is upto 7.2 MBps. It is also GPRS, EDGE and WiFi enabled phone. It can also be connected using a USB port and Bluetooth with A2DP support for headset support.
BlackBerry Bold : It is also a Quad Band 850/900/1800/1900 phone and is capable of communicating over 3G HSDPA 850/1900/2100 frequency bands. The 3G speed support is upto 3.6 MBps and there is also option for GPRS, EDGE and WiFi connectivity. It also has Bluetooth A2DP support and USB Connectivity
Palm Pre : This one is also a Quad Band phone and has 3G HSDPA capability of the common frequency bands. There is also option for GPRS, EDGE, WiFi connectivity and Bluetooth with A2DP Support alongwith USB connectivity via micro USB.
Nokia N97 : This is also a Quad Band phone and has 3G Connectivity with 900/1900/2100 bands as well as 850/1900/2100 bands for American version. The phone is GPRS, EDGE, WiFi and Bluetooth with A2DP supported. It also connects via micro USB ports.
Conclusion : All of the above phones have same connectivity options except that the iPhone 3GS supports 7.2 MBps speed while others support 3.6 MBps speed. However, in real life you won’t see any speed difference because there is no current service provider that gives out the speeds of 7.2 MBps. So, there is no clear winner in this section.

iphone_blackberry7. Usability

iPhone 3GS : The iPhone may be a bit awkward to use at first but you can use your intuition to get things done. The usability of this phone made this an unquestionable choice for many customers.
BlackBerry Bold : Blackberry is known for its usability focused on business applications. It has shortcut keys to get things done very fast but still it needs some time to master the operating system.
Palm Pre : This phone has both of good usability and applications. Its Web OS is fantastic; has intuitive features as well as good applications.
Nokia N97 : It is based on Symbian Series 60 Operating System Version 5 which is very stable and tested operating system. The symbian users find using this phone very easy and natural.
Conclusion : Every OS has its own Pros and Cons but if you ask me to rate them, I will sort them as Palm Pre Web OS, iPhone OS 3.0, BlackBerry OS and Nokia’s Symbian OS S60 v 5.

pre_open_close8. Speed

iPhone 3GS : It uses ARM Cortex A8 processor clocking at 600 MHz and there is also a PowerVR SGX Processor that handles the graphics. Doing things is nice and fast which makes its name iPhone 3G S : S stands for Speed.
BlackBerry Bold : The Bold uses a 624 MHz Processor which is very fast and doing multiple application are a breeze.
Palm Pre : Palm Pre uses the same processor as the iPhone 3GS – the ARM Cortex A8 Processor clocking at 600 MHz and a PowerVR SGX 530 processor for handling the graphics. Naturally the system, is as fast as the iPhone 3G S.
Nokia N97 : It uses a underpowered ARM 11 CPU clocking at 434 MHz. The animations look slow and jerky and webpage rendering also looks muddy.
Conclusion : Nokia N97 lags behind others in terms of speed. All other devices are quite speedy and have excellent response.

apple-iphone-3g9. Camera

iPhone 3GS : It has a 3.15 MP Camera with autofocus, touchfocus and geotagging facility. It can capture videos at VGA resolution @ 30 fps. Although there is no flash.
BlackBerry Bold : The BlackBerry Bold has a 2MP camera with LED Flash. No autofocus or other advanced features.
Palm Pre : The Palm Pre Camera has 3.15 MP sensor with enhanced fixed focus. It also has a LED Flash.
Nokia N97 : The N97 uses a 5MP sensor with Carl Zeiss Optics. There is LED Flash and video light. There is also some advanced features like geo tagging and video recording in VGA resolution at 30 fps.
Conclusion : The Nokia N97’s camera beats all others with its feature as well as image quality. The next comes the iPhone’s camera and then the Palm Pre and the BlackBerry.

nokia-n97110. Overall

iPhone 3GS : The iPhone is a blockbuster phone that has won many hearts. After some of refinements the iPhone 3GS model seems to remove all the flaws that it had in the previous models. Now it stands as an irresistible champion.
BlackBerry Bold : BlackBerry is always the first choice for the business users and the BlackBerry Bold is the best BlackBerry phone ever made. It is also an unquestionable choice for a corporate person.
Palm Pre : Palm Pre did not get as much hype as the iPhone or Nokia N97 or a BlackBerry. There is nothing outstanding about the device but amazingly there is no major flaw in the device that can be a deal breaker.
Nokia N97 : It is probably the most talked about phone from the house of Nokia. It has a stable OS, a nice touchscreen, superb camera and a plethora of multimedia features.
Conclusion : At the end of the day all of the four phones are tough competitors and it is hard to decide which one is the best. None of the phones can be neglected for their shortcomings because they have some features that outdoes others in some respects. This is why there is no overall winner that outperforms others in every respect.

DEFINITELY FILIPINO! – PAULINO ALCANTARA

FC Barcelona - Paulino Alcantara

Another Filipino pride many of us didn’t even know, Paulino Alcántara, was the first Asian to play for any European football club. He played for F.C. Barcelona and became the youngest player ever to play or score for the club at 15. Born in Iloilo, he’s also F.C. Barcelona’s highest goal scorer w/ 357 goals, a feat not even broken by Diego Maradona & Ronaldhino for F.C.B. whew! He even became a doctor after his football carreer. Definitely Filipino!

A SCHOOL PROJECT & A STAGE PARENT!

The Sewing Kit... Bow!

Thus, some kids get to bring real paintings and sculptures instead of bringing a kid’s work. It’s not that we are spoon-feeding our kids to the extent of disrupting learning because some of us get to do everything for them but because we want them to see us parents interested as well on their activities in school.

More so, we want to show them that we as parents are ready to help them in whatever means we can. For me, I let my son do the draft and even the first stroke then I resume the work. Halfway, I let him do it so he can follow what I have done and he can finish it too. So far, it works with the job getting done faster as he learns.

19 DAYS TO 30 YEARS AND ONWARDS!

My One Year Old Photo12:00AM December 1, 2009. 19 days starting today and I will be turning 30. It’s indeed a day to celebrate yet a day to start thinking more as an old and mature person. I cannot afford to waste time anymore. I am turning 30 soon!

I can now feel all the pressure of having to achieve more and having to start building a legacy that I can leave not just to my family, friends and to our clan but to the entire community someday. It’s my time to shine more in my own centerstage!

3 decades of having a blessed life with more than half of it spent in school from elementary, highschool to college. A quarter of it spent as a toddler preparing for school and another quarter in the corporate world trying to work for a living.

In this post is a photo of me taken when I was more or less 1 year old. So many things have changed since then. From crawling, I am now able to stand by myself. I am not dressed with education and experience. I have indeed grown up. Life has taught me a lot about surviving and about loving. In good times and in bad times, I have surpassed my first 29 years as a strong and better man. I am turning 30.

Today, as I waited for the clock to strike midnight and welcome December 1, 2009, I decided to document my emotions. I am happy and I am excited but I am nervous as well. I know that I have a long way to go. The retirement age is 65 so I still have 35 years to work and achieve things before I get to go home with my retirement pay and do farming perhaps or publish future bestseller books with my family.

19 days before the big day indeed! I will be 30 years old. Thank you Lord!

IT ONLY TAKES A DOUBLE-CLICK!

CD Sorting-0003 CD Sorting-0001

I just saw this first ever video advert that I tried making almost 9 years ago for UK use as requested by my cousin Blue before I got full time into video editing as a hobby and as a part-time job prior to my IT career. It took me like a minute to conceptualize this and after almost a decade, I still can see myself in this draft video.

I think that it was in this draft video too where the concept of "IT ONLY TAKES A DOUBLE-CLICK" started. Hehehe! Well, I am sorting out my big box full of old CDs looking for something I can submit to BITOY to win a new CANON camera and I found lots of items almost a decade old. Hehehe. It’s reminiscing time once again!

PROJECT 2010: COMING SOON

It’s been more than a decade perhaps since we planned of putting up commercial stalls in front of our old house in the province. It was a decade ago since the first 3 stalls were built by my father and eventually were rented out for additional income. Little by little, my parents worked hard to put enhancements every year.

After that, my parents and siblings relocated while I got married and settled for employment in Manila. Flooding was also an issue. No one was left in our place except the tenants and our house helper who married a tenant’s nephew. She became the caretaker of our old house inside. Our place is just along the national highway.

Front Side View

Just recently, my parents renovated the place and started putting up a second floor. My sister and I decided to put up an internet shop as well so my brother-in-law need not to work at SCTEX or in Manila far away from my nephew. It was also for us siblings to get into business and for the old house to be a home once again.

Just awhile ago, I tried playing with simple drawing tools like MS PAINT and SNAGIT to draft a plan for our place. I was not able to master AUTOCAD or PHOTOSHOP but I am good at DRAFTING way back my school days so I just thought of letting my ideas out. I did several drawings last year and just this summer in my notebook though.

Project Plan Floor Plan - Floor 1

Posted are some of the simple drawings I made awhile ago while chatting with my friend Jeff who also has a commercial property south of Manila. I wanted to illustrate to him what we are chatting about so I opened MS PAINT and SNAGIT to start drawing. After 5 minutes, I was able to make 5 art works. Hehehe! Great!

I wanted to have the second floor done with 3 stalls before I can get to build the third floor for stalls or perhaps a ladies’ dorm for SM employees. The old house can be demolished for parking or to build a new house. The said plan has to be applicable on the lot I purchased in the Davao area because I intend to build one there. Hehehe.

Floor Plan - Floor 2 Floor Plan - Floor 3

Well, more than the floor plans and drawings, these MS PAINT ART WORKS detail a dream that I long to put into reality. I want to finish what my family started building more than a decade ago. I want to invest on it because more than the revenue that I will surely get out from this venture is the fulfillment of a dream for my family!

ROBIN PADILLA, MANNY PACQUIAO AND EFREN PANAFLORIDA

Bad Boy and Pacman

OPINION: UN PEACE ENVOY ROBIN AND PGMA PEACE ENVOY PACMAN

I just read the news about Robin Padilla being open to the proposition of mediating between the warring political clans in Maguindanao. Indeed, I am impressed since he is not a politician and he is not even thirsty for fame because he is already famous. He is just doing his role as an "AMBASSADOR FOR PEACE" of the United Nation’s Action on Conflict and Transformation for Peace.

PGMA appoints Pacman I wonder what Manny Pacquiao has to say about the Maguindanao Massacre and the issue on political clans being an appointed AMBASSADOR FOR PEACE AND UNDERSTANDING by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Maguindanao is almost near his province and I am sure that if people in Luzon and Visayas care enough, he should be concerned as well for the law and order in Mindanao.

If a local actor not having any intention or inclination to politics can offer himself to Mindanao Peace Process, I am sure that the People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao who is eyeing a congressional seat this coming 2010 Election should be caring enough to promote peace and order in Mindanao. He need not be told. It is not politicking if people will get to see you out helping people less the clamor for recognition.

ANOTHER OPINION: THE REAL FILIPINO HEROES

CNN Hero of the Year

Look at our CNN HERO OF THE YEAR Efren Peñaflorida. In his own little ways and means, he was able to put our country on top of other nations with pride and honor not because he was a good puncher or an athlete doing his profession for fame and money but because he was out in the street for years educating the less fortunate kids initially uncompensated, unrecognized but with great honor.

Efren Peñaflorida was doing his own contribution to the society not because it is his professional job to teach nor it is a bread and butter for him but because he wanted to uplift the lives of his countrymen by educating the kids who cannot afford to go to school. While some are enjoying fame, honor and perks showered by the public for winning bouts, he is pushing his cart to reach the poor.

I am not against the People’s Champ. Besides, I am a fan as well but I do not think that he is a NATIONAL HERO to consider because like any athlete doing his own sports and competing in his own matches, no one wants to fight and end up a loser. Remove all the prize money and the title perhaps, would someone fight alone just for his own country’s pride? I don’t think so. Thus, promoters negotiate for the pot! Right?

I admire Robin Padilla and Efren Peñaflorida plus all the other not-so-famous Filipinos who are giving their time and effort to help people less the need for credits and media exposure. I admire the brave journalists, bloggers and even ordinary citizens shouting for justice and peace amidst threat and hardship. I admire the youth of today who continue to take their own stand on national issues.

For me, Manny Pacquiao is but just another proud Filipino professional athlete winning his titles as how he was trained for. This may have added us pride since his victory tagged his nationality but until we all get to see what he has done to his own people and to his own country given his fortune, he remains a champion but not a hero in my eyes. More than his feats and his close relation to the president, he’s just an athlete.

CONCLUSION: JUST MY TWO CENTS… AND IT’S NOT PERSONAL!

Efren Penaflorida and Robin Padilla

A hero is often seen as someone who sacrifices for the greater good of the nation. Ninoy Aquino has sacrificed his political career, luxury of life and family to fight for freedom. Thus, he deserves his title! Heroes are not housed in mansions and pampered by women while collecting luxury cars. Heroes have their own principles. They will never side with the oppressor and dictator for safety.

To conclude, I am proud of the few good men working to fight hunger and poverty. I am proud of all the people trying to shout their condemnation of political violence and media killing openly to the public. I am proud of those who took their own stand to seek justice for the Maguindanao Massacre. They may not be as famous and as rich but they are THE REAL FILIPINO HEROES OF TODAY! Mabuhay kayo!

ROBIN OFFERS TO MEDIATE MINDANAO CLAN FEUDS
By Tito N. Fiel, Orlando Dinoy
Inquirer Mindanao

ILIGAN CITY, Philippines—Actor Robin Padilla, who is an "ambassador for peace" of the United Nation’s Action on Conflict and Transformation for Peace, said he was willing to mediate in clan feuds in Mindanao, including in Maguindanao, but added that warlords should be disarmed first.

Padilla spoke before an Interfaith forum held at the Elena Hotel here Friday.

“I was asked if I was willing to go to Maguindanao. Seriously I am more than willing to go if my presence is needed there so that warring clans make peace with each other,” said the actor, a convert to Islam.

Padilla was referring to the clan war between the Ampatuans and the Mangudadatus.

On November 23, several Mangudadatu clan members, their supporters and at least 30 journalists were killed by a group of armed men allegedly led by Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. of Datu Unsay, Maguindanao.

At least 64 people are known to have been killed in the carnage based on the number of bodies found strewn about on a grassy field and buried in a mass grave in Maguindanao.

Padilla, who once served time for illegal possession of firearms, said peace was possible only if if nobody points a gun at anybody.

“The manifestation of peace is a gunless society,” he said in Filipino.

Padilla later told reporters he hoped “no efforts will be spared to prosecute those responsible for the Maguindanao carnage so that justice will be served to the families of the victims.”

Padilla said it was a shame that the incident took place when Mindanao was celebrating the Week of Peace.

“Warlords should be disarmed so that peace will reign,” he said.

Padilla also quoted a Koranic verse saying all people belong to one family and that there was no need to fight each other, when he called for unity among Mindanaoans.

In Digos City, Muslims also urged warring families to stop the violence, saying innocent civilians were always at the losing end.

Officials of the Davao del Sur Agama Islamic Center cited the Maguindanao carnage as one example of unarmed individuals being caught in conflicts.

Ibrahim Rimakuta, an official of the center, said the massacre was unspeakable and has to be condemned.

Alimun Dimapundog, another Muslim leader, said if only politicians learned to live by the teachings of the Koran and the Hadith (Prophet Muhammad’s teachings), there would be no violence.

He blamed hunger for power as the culprit in the Maguindanao massacre.

PACMAN AS PEACE ENVOY
Written by BEN CAL

“The appointment of boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao as ‘ambassador for peace and understanding’ will greatly help the government’s peace process.”

This was the statement of Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Avelino I. Razon Jr. after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday named Pacquiao as envoy for peace.

Razon said Pacquiao’s appointment was timely as the government is vigorously pursuing to resume the stalled peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the New People’s Army (NPA).

“It is my belief that Pacquiao, a boxing hero, can contribute greatly to the peace process, considering his popularity and influence to the Filipino people, including the rebels,” Razon said.

Peace talks with the NPA bogged down in 2004 after the United States tagged the NPA as a foreign terrorist organization.

On the other hand, negotiations with the MILF collapsed in August last year following the aborted signing of the controversial Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) which was declared as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

But Razon said the government will never give up on peace, saying that “Pacquiao will be an asset to the peace process,” Razon said.

The President named Pacquiao “as ambassador for peace and understanding” during his visit to Malacanang where he was given a hero’s welcome as the best “pound-for-pound” boxer in the world after he knocked out British champion Ricky Hatton in the second round in their title fight in Las Vegas last May 3.

During a victory party in Malacanang, the President congratulated Pacquiao for his outstanding performance in the ring arena that has brought honors to the entire Filipino people.

PENAFLORIDA ARRIVES TO A HERO’S WELCOME
By Nina Catherine Calleja
Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines — CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida arrived in the country on Wednesday night, somehow helping uplift the country’s mood soured by the slaughter of at least 57 people, including more than 20 journalists, in Maguindanao on Monday.

Beaming while holding the CNN plaque, Peñaflorida was welcomed by a hundred students and Dynamic Teen Co. (DTC) co-teachers, who screamed and waved Philippine flaglets upon seeing him.

They mobbed, hugged and kissed him, while chanting “Kuya Ef” and “Bayani!”

Reacting to the roaring crowd, a woman at the airport said, “Wow, it was pure joy!”

CNN honored him for starting a “pushcart classroom” to bring education to poor children as an alternative to gang membership.

He created a program that brings books to children in slums and on the streets. His DTC has brought reading, writing and hygiene to 1,500 children.

Clad in T-shirt and jeans, Peñaflorida arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport via Northwest flight (NW281) at 11:25 p.m.
The 28-year-old native of Cavite City will be receiving the Order of Lakandula from President Macapagal-Arroyo.

Resolutions in the Senate and other provinces to honor his deeds have also been passed.

Unlike the hero’s welcome for boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, the CNN Hero said on Wednesday night that he was expecting ordinary days ahead except that he was scheduled to meet Ms Arroyo in Malacañang for a courtesy call.

“I will still push carts. Don’t think Kuya Ef has changed. I just represent all the selfless and hardworking Filipinos,” Peñaflorida said.

His mother Lucila said no feast would await him at home.

“We don’t have money. What Efren got from the award was not his,” Lucila said but she kept reiterating how proud she was of her son.

Lucila, who earns money from repacking fish crackers in the market, said that what the family earned was just enough for their daily needs.

“He knows that. And he might get mad at us if we prepare a lavish treat,” she said.

Peñaflorida said he would build a Center for Learning somewhere that would be accessible to street children.

He said 90 percent of the $125,000 cash prize he bagged from the CNN award would go to DTC for its expansion, while 10 percent would be donated to the Church. He received $100,000 for being named CNN Hero of the Year and $25,000 for earlier making it to the top 10 CNN Heroes.

“We are happy to say that the pushcart classrooms have been replicated in various places in Metro Manila, Bacolod, Zamboanga, and as far as Kenya and Indonesia,” Peñaflorida said.

He said the CNN award served as an inspiration for Filipinos with hearts for heroism. “We just need to open our eyes and hearts for those who need help the most,” he said.

A full-time teacher at the Palm Ridge School in Cavite, the CNN hero remains a bachelor with no girlfriend at 28 years old. “There were no sacrifices at all because this is a calling and I enjoy helping the kids,” he said.

Asked about his reaction to the massacre of civilians and journalists in Maguindanao, Peñaflorida said he was not aware of the killings while he was abroad until a CNN employee told him about it.

“A (staffer) of the CNN was the one who first told me. And I was really shocked and saddened,” he told the Inquirer.

An employee at the NAIA terminal said Peñaflorida’s arrival might change the country’s mood at least briefly.

On Friday, Penaflorida is expected to get a hero’s welcome in his home-province, Cavite.

Cavite Gov. Ayong Maliksi, who also welcomed Peñaflorida at the airport, said the provincial government would donate P1 million for Peñaflorida’s pushcart classrooms.

Maliksi has also offered Peñaflorida a job at the provincial capitol as consultant for education.

MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE: THE REPEAT OF ESCALANTE MASSACRE

 Escalante Massacre

Escalante massacre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Escalante massacre was an incident on September 20, 1985 in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, Philippines where para-military forces of the government gunned down civilians engaged in a protest-rally in commemoration of the 13th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law. It is also called Escam – shorthand for "Escalante massacre", and sometimes Bloody Thursday.[1]

Background

The declaration of martial law on September 21, 1972 by President Ferdinand Marcos proved to be the dawning of darker days for the country. Although martial rule was lifted by Marcos on January 17, 1981, the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus was continued. Citizens merely protesting the policies of the Marcos government risked arrest without warrant and indefinite detention.

Adding to the tension of the times was the proposed creation of the province of Negros del Norte from Negros Occidental. Citizens saw this as a maneuver by Marcos cronies in the northern portion of the province to consolidate more power. Negros del Norte was created from Negros Occidental on January 3, 1986, but its creation was later found to be unconstitutional and was abolished on August 18, 1986.

Attack

On September 18, 1985, a crowd composed of sugar workers, farmers, fisher-folk, students, urban poor, professionals and church people staged a noise protest in the town center. The crowd was estimated to number 5000. The next day, the protesters set up human barricades in front of the public market and at the entrance of the municipal plaza. On the morning of September 20, a police car approached the picket line and the protest leaders were invited to a negotiation conference at the Municipal Building which was about fifty meters from the barricades. The leaders refused.

About mid-afternoon, fire trucks arrived and began to bombard the picket line with high-pressure water and tear gas. The crowd was surrounded by members of the Regional Special Action Force (RSAF) and the Civilian Home Defense Force (CHDF). When some protestors threw back the tear gas canisters into the empty plaza, the para-military forces, who would later allege that a few "trouble-makers" tried to grab their weapons, opened fire into the masses.

Aftermath

Accounts of the number of casualties vary: between twenty[1][2] and thirty[3] dead, and thirty[2] wounded. After the crowd had dispersed, the site was cordoned off by the para-military units and on-lookers were ordered to bring the wounded to hospitals in the town. The bodies were recovered from the rally site, and in the sugar cane fields surrounding the location. Buildings and concrete walls nearby were riddled with bullet holes.

The government organized the Escalante Massacre Fact-Finding Commission chaired by Ombudsman Justice Raul M. Gonzalez (as of 2007, the Secretary of the Department of Justice). The commission recommended that the government indemnify the victims’ next of kin. This was never done.[1] In 2003, three low-ranking policemen jailed for their alleged role in the massacre were released on parole.

HOW TO BE AN INFLUENTIAL BLOGGER

I was reading awhile ago about HOW TO BE AN INFLUENTIAL BLOGGER since I wanted to be one when I saw this great blog site from FATHER BLOGGER DOT COM. I got interested by the blogger’s ability to put simple yet effective content through a manner of writing that is narrative and fatherly. The blog is really inspiring!

Indeed, FATHER BLOGGER or MR. ANGEL CUALA in the real world is a true influential blogger deserving of such award as one of the TOP 10 EMERGING INFLUENTIAL BLOG OF 2009. Thus, I have decided to use and feature his blog article to share what he has to say for all of us young bloggers and emerging influential bloggers around.

FATHER BLOGGER ON YOUTUBE: HOW TO BE AN INFLUENTIAL BLOGGER
By FATHER BLOGGER

fatherbloggercert First of all, I would like to say thank you to Ms. Janette Toral for uploading this video and to Roy of The Struggling Blogger for sharing the link to me. Anyway, this video is my speech last Saturday when my blog Father Blogger dot Com was chosen as one of the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs for 2009.

The first part contains all the gratitude to those who helped me when my wife and daughter had Dengue fever. The second part explained my history in blogging, how I started, and all the hardships it encountered. This includes the extended support of my fellow Filipino bloggers to renew its domain and hosting service.

However, I think the best part is blogging tips that I shared. They are the ones I tried and proven effective, and I hope you can get something from them.

Choose a topic that you love most. Although there might be a lot of topics you love, you must choose the one you love the most. This topic may not belong to the top searches on search engines, but so be it. It’s hard to win in a stiff competition that you are not fully prepared, and when you cannot give your one hundred percent. You can never influence anyone to something that you are not really enjoying.

Create unique and useful posts. The uniqueness of your posts don’t just mean that you should not copy and paste. It also means that the readers should feel that each post is your signature that they cannot find elsewhere, and only you can do it. The usefulness however means that your posts should have a great influence to the readers. It is always better if you can create ageless post so that even the next generation can also use them.

Be sincere in promoting your blog. There are a lot of ways to promote your blog, and I truly believe that the time to blog is 80% and only 20% in writing contents. However, it is useless to promote your blog blatantly. If you keep on leaving comments just to promote your blog, you will be accused of spamming. If you socialize with people just to advertise your blog, people will avoid you. For me, the best promotional technique is to give people what they need and do it with sincerity.

Inspire your readers. I did not touch this blog more than one month due to time and monetary concerns, and I only read comments and moderate them. I was surprised to know I have been inspiring my readers, and they are looking forward to my next posts. I was even surprised when it was nominated and won the recent contents. Therefore, it will also be a lesser job for you to promote your blog.

Attend blogging events. This may be optional to some, but it was very advantageous to me. After attending my first blogging event last year, I felt that I am now a legitimate blogger. It created a wonderful feeling inside to see your readers in person, as well as the ones you admired. Great contents may be influential, but talking directly and exchanging smiles is more influential. There you are, and I hope I inspired you especially those who want to start a blog. But if you are having a hard time with the video, here is the link at You Tube .

Lastly, I am inviting you to download the Free Ebook: The Ultimate Super Tip. It is not just an ordinary ebook that will teach you how to make money from your blog, as you can actually make money from it if you will only discover the magic. But before doing so, you may want to read my review about it – The Ultimate Super Tip: A Free E-book Review.

If you want to receive my future posts regularly for FREE, you can subscribe in a reader or by Email. If you have concerns, please do not hesitate to Contact Me anytime.

NOTE: Due credit to MR. ANGEL CUALA aka FATHER BLOGGER.

Well, this is the reason why I ventured into an INTERNET GAMING BUSINESS just this year because the demand is always present day or night and rain or shine.

Even in the midst of flooding, the internet gaming business is raking profit. Thus, it is not true that INTERNET SHOPS are OUT. Check the photo and see! Hehehe!

PHOTOS: JUSTICE FOR MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE!

I cannot write anymore about this. Much has been said both online, in prints and via television. I feel sorry for the loss of lives due to conflicts brought about by the overwhelming clamor for power and territory of the few. We need to put a stop to all these senseless deaths. We need to act now!

NEWS UPDATE:

Ampatuan Davao Mansion Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr.Mastermind Arrested?Andal Ampatuan Jr.

AMPATUAN SURRENDERS, TO BE FLOWN TO MANILA
Ampatuan Jr., accompanied by Jesus Dureza, presidential adviser on Mindanao, arrived in General Santos at 12:25 p.m., clad in polo-shirt, long pants, black jacket and his face covered with a turban. He was handed over to Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera who would bring the local official to Manila onboard a private plane.

MASSACRE WITNESS SURFACES, TAGS AMPATUAN
Witness said that all the slain women were raped. The 100 armed men never asked why, they just followed orders from Andal Ampatuan, Jr. He mentioned that they were not able to finish the job of burying all the dead and their vehicles because soldiers were coming. The witness said that their group do have connections with military in reference to the heinous crime committed.

WITNESS: ‘WE JUST FOLLOWED ORDERS’
A man who says he was a witness to Monday’s massacre in the southern Philippines has told Al Jazeera how he was ordered to kill members of a rival political clan – including women and children – and to make sure no evidence was left behind.

I need not to shout more! I need not to name names and put too much detail as well because each article would narrate the same story. The PHOTOS & VIDEOS below should tell us all what really happened on that fateful day plus the videos I have posted in this blog entry. I am for what is right. I write for justice and peace. I go for the truth!

Maguindanao Massacre 8 by J CarinoMaguindanao Massacre 4

This incident should be a wake-up call for all of us that Mindanao is also a part of the Philippines. This massacre in Maguindanao is a clear sign of the failure of our government to put law, justice and order in a land rich with culture, resources and people! This has to be addressed and now is the time for the government to work!

God bless our Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao! God bless our country!

Maguindanao Massacre

Some other photos obtained from other blogs and website are used below. Ownerships of the said materials are retained by respective photographers and media firms. Thank you. I hope that this will be a wake-up call for our government officials both in the senate, congress and at the palace to ensure that the law is implemented.

VEHICLES BURIED WITH THEIR PASSENGERS

Photos recently taken on YAHOO PHILIPPINES with due credits to AP PHOTOS, GETTY IMAGES, REUTERS, etc. showing how the perpetrators tried to cover-up their evil deeds by crushing vehicles using a government-owned equipment and burying them afterwards in a shallow pit along with passengers inside. This heinous crime is something that we cannot just forget and leave for now. Justice has to be served!

Dead bodies lie on the ground near their vehicles at the crime scene of a massacre of a political clan that included several journalists in the outskirts of Ampatuan, Maguindanao in southern Philippines November 24, 2009. The Philippines sacked the provincial police chief and sent hundreds of extra troops to a southern region on Tuesday where gunmen killed at least 24 people in the worst-ever election related violence in the country. On Monday, about 100 gunmen abducted a group of people going to file a nomination for the provincial governor’s post in Maguindanao. A group of about 40 people, including women and local journalists, were taken away by gunmen who opened fire on them, investigators said. A local leader said four survivors were in hiding.

POINTS TO PONDER!

How come when TED FAILON was tagged as a SUSPECT, every policeman in the country was in search for him? No evidence was found but still he was invited to the PNP station and treated as a SUSPECT although INNOCENT. Right?

How come ERAP was arrested the day the government instructed PNP to arrest him even if there were NO DIRECT EVIDENCE that he was indeed responsible for the crime accused to him by other equally-corrupt politicians?

How come some ordinary people can get arrested just by mere suspicion and others are not because they are powerful and favored by the government? The Law should be fair and it should be applied to all regardless of social status!

DESIGN: HIGH SCHOOL REUNION TICKETS

Just recently, my high school batch president decided to delegate a task to me of creating a design for our reunion tickets. I was the class’ national artist way back so perhaps that’s what hinted her from giving me such an assignment. Hehehe.

     Ticket 5

Well, I took the task. I’m trying to play with RED, WHITE and BLACK for our REUNION TICKET DESIGN. I’m hoping that some of you can give me TIPS on how to make our TICKET simple and catchy but not too crowded. See actual size above.

I have prepared 3 designs as draft but I added 3 more. I need to refine them still as we may need to have them printed soon. I want to incorporate the BARCODE concept because I see it cool. For designs with no venue, see Back Cover Options 1 & 2.

I want Design 2 or 6 actually but Design 5 will do as well. Thanks to MS PAINT for the quick design and SNAG-IT for allowing me to add text with shadows. I have no Photoshop installed and if I have, I am not good with it. Hehehe.

I am posting this blog entry for my batch mates so they can check the designs, review and pick one for printing but readers are welcome to give their inputs as well. Please drop your suggestions as comments. Thank you very much!

WEEKEND MOVIE MARATHON!

I got into bed late Friday night. I invited my brother-in-law, my sister-in-law and her boyfriend for dinner and sleep-over. I wanted to watch a scary movie but I needed a company because my wife can’t stand watching such flicks as well.

Thus, we all watched PARANORMAL ACTIVITY after PBB and SNN. Hahaha. It was indeed a scary movie. We were all shouting and affected. Hahaha. I had to watch a comedy film – YAYA & ANGELINA afterwards just to calm myself. Hehehe.

The next day, we woke up early to take my son to school for their Saturday class. We went to bed again and woke up almost past lunch time. While doing the weekly laundry, my wife and I decided to watch AND I LOVE YOU SO and IN MY LIFE!

Cheesy as it may seems but the said movies made me cry. I never wanted to watch but I cannot help it. The said movies were really great! Hahaha. Now I know why my friend Erick loves such local flicks! Sobrang Cheesy! Sobrang Eevee! Hahaha!

NOT EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO HANG LAUNDRY OUTSIDE!

U.S. residents fight for the right to hang laundry

By Jon Hurdle Jon Hurdle – Wed Nov 18, 11:32 am ET

PERKASIE, Pennsylvania (Reuters) – Carin Froehlich pegs her laundry to three clotheslines strung between trees outside her 18th-century farmhouse, knowing that her actions annoy local officials who have asked her to stop.

Froehlich is among the growing number of people across America fighting for the right to dry their laundry outside against a rising tide of housing associations who oppose the practice despite its energy-saving green appeal.

Although there are no formal laws in this southeast Pennsylvania town against drying laundry outside, a town official called Froehlich to ask her to stop drying clothes in the sun. And she received two anonymous notes from neighbors saying they did not want to see her underwear flapping about.

"They said it made the place look like trailer trash," she said, in her yard across the street from a row of neat, suburban houses. "They said they didn’t want to look at my ‘unmentionables.’"

Froehlich says she hangs her underwear inside. The effervescent 54-year-old is one of a growing number of Americans demanding the right to dry laundry on clotheslines despite local rules and a culture that frowns on it.

Their interests are represented by Project Laundry List, a group that argues people can save money and reduce carbon emissions by not using their electric or gas dryers, according to the group’s executive director, Alexander Lee.

Widespread adoption of clotheslines could significantly reduce U.S. energy consumption, argued Lee, who said dryer use accounts for about 6 percent of U.S. residential electricity use.

Florida, Utah, Maine, Vermont, Colorado, and Hawaii have passed laws restricting the rights of local authorities to stop residents using clotheslines. Another five states are considering similar measures, said Lee, 35, a former lawyer who quit to run the non-profit group.

‘RIGHT TO HANG’

His principal opponents are the housing associations such as condominiums and townhouse communities that are home to an estimated 60 million Americans, or about 20 percent of the population. About half of those organizations have ‘no hanging’ rules, Lee said, and enforce them with fines.

Carl Weiner, a lawyer for about 50 homeowners associations in suburban Philadelphia, said the no-hanging rules are usually included by the communities’ developers along with regulations such as a ban on sheds or commercial vehicles.

The no-hanging rules are an aesthetic issue, Weiner said.

"The consensus in most communities is that people don’t want to see everybody else’s laundry."

He said opposition to clotheslines may ease as more people understand it can save energy and reduce greenhouse gases.

"There is more awareness of impact on the environment," he said. "I would not be surprised to see people questioning these restrictions."

For Froehlich, the "right to hang" is the embodiment of the American tradition of freedom.

"If my husband has a right to have guns in the house, I have a right to hang laundry," said Froehlich, who is writing a book on the subject.

Besides, it saves money. Line-drying laundry for a family of five saves $83 a month in electric bills, she said.

Kevin Firth, who owns a two-bedroom condominium in a Dublin, Pennsylvania housing association, said he was fined $100 by the association for putting up a clothesline in a common area.

"It made me angry and upset," said Firth, a 27-year-old carpenter. "I like having the laundry drying in the sun. It’s something I have always done since I was a little kid."

Elizabeth Lambert

Suddenly, it made me remember two of the Philippine Basketball Association’s Legends – Robert “The Big J” Jaworski and Rudy “The Destroyer” Distrito known to many as hardcourt streetfighters but not as rough and as hard as female soccer player Elizabeth Lambert of New Mexico Lobos who became a National Villain overnight. MOVIES TO WATCH: WAPAKMAN! – A MANNY PACQUIAO FILM

UPDATE: With more photos of Mocha Unson and Krista Ranillo kissing as captured from the blog of Mocha Unson. Please see MORE PHOTOS below!

Pacman-Krista in US Jinkee Pacquiao loves Manny Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao loves Krista Ranillo. Krista Ranillo loves Money este Manny Pacquiao! This statement was said to be true and in order based on Manny Pacquiao’s emotional status right now. Hehehe.

Well, that’s what is topping the headlines nowadays aside from his recent victory to Miguel Cotto. I wonder if this is just a mere publicity gimmick for Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming movie – WAPAKMAN or another form of political harassment perhaps?

Pacman-Krista in Baguio 1

Pacman-Krista in Baguio 2

This is just a typical lifestyle given to rich celebrities and politicians. Now that Manny Pacquiao is about to be a congressman, he is just trying to adjust to the lifestyle. Hehehe. More so, we cannot blame him if ladies are flocking him. He’s a star!

Anyway, I got this image from a link posted on my Twitter account by another user and I thought of sharing it to seek the truth about the said SMS. I am sure that Jinkee Pacquiao is not used to showbiz life yet but Manny Pacquiao has to secure her first.

I also saw a YOUTUBE video from the internet featured in another blog PINOY AMBISYOSO that I thought of sharing as well showing him driving a car with a lady said to be Krista Ranillo, the young starlet being linked to him. All these may just be coincidence perhaps but I do hope that Manny Pacquiao will get to value his marriage as well.

Jinkee Pacquiao has been with him for years since he started small until now. They have kids as well. If this is a case of INFIDELITY, I just hope that this be resolved soon because we do not want to see all the glory being put to waste!

True indeed that this JINKEE-MANNY-KRISTA is the Philippines’ Most Expensive Love Triangle and this will definitely cost Manny Pacquiao more than the value of his lifetime achievements and cash prizes combined – his family. Goodluck!

ANOTHER ARTICLE FROM PEP.PH – PHILIPPINE ENTERTAINMENT PORTAL

Krista-MannyManny Pacquiao and wife Jinkee reportedly had a big fight over Krista Ranillo

Glen P. Sibonga (PEP.ph)
Monday, November 16, 2009
12:01 PM

(CLICK HERE to read related story.)

KRISTA IN MANNY’S LIFE.

At ayon kay Krista, "I have nothing to hide. I’m not guilty of anything."

GINA’S INTRIGUING FACEBOOK ENTRY.

Ayon sa Facebook account ni Gina, "If I am Jinkee Pacquiao I will not give up Manny… Krista Ranillo is not at all worth it!!!"

JINKEE’S TEXT MESSAGE TO KRIS.

PROFILE: NOYNOY AQUINO

image

It is in his bloodline. It is his heritage.

For Senator Benigno "Noynoy" C. Aquino III, democracy restored must be defended without fear and guarded with greatest fervor.

However, while he is a staunch advocate of liberal democracy, he is also a fiscalizer who relentlessly espouses public accountability.

His key legislative initiatives are anchored on the protection of human rights and good governance through increased transparency and public accountability. These are founded on the democratic ideals championed by his parents, former Senator and martyr Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. and former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino.

A true working democracy, he says, makes possible not only political freedoms but a better life for all Filipinos. It must be able to provide jobs, education, social services and equitable economic prosperity for everyone, not just the rich, privileged few.

The defense of democracy nearly cost Noynoy his life. He was almost killed during the military coup against President Aquino in 1990 when he met retreating rogue soldiers at the front gates of Malacañang. Three of his bodyguards died while he suffered five bullet wounds. A bullet is still embedded in his neck.

Noynoy served as Congressman of the 2nd District of Tarlac from 1998 to 2007. In 2004, he was stripped of his prestigious post as Deputy House Speaker for Luzon after he joined leaders of the Liberal Party (LP) in calling for the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the height of the “Hello Garci” scandal.

In May 2007, he ran for Senator and won, placing 6th in the national elections.

As a Senator in the 14th Congress, he chairs the Senate Committee on Local Government.

In the Liberal Party, Senator Aquino held various positions such as Secretary General and Vice Chairman. He is now Party’s Executive Vice President.

Noynoy is a graduate of Economics at the Ateneo de Manila University. He fancies Chinese food and is a shooting and billiards enthusiast.

IN THE SENATE

For over ten years, Noynoy Aquino has been a representative of the people in both houses of Congress. His top priority has always been to continue the legacy of his parents, Ninoy and Cory Aquino, who, as the country’s democratic stalwarts, fought bravely to promote a just and free society.

ISSUES

National Budget

By vigorously examining the national budget proposed by the Executive every year, Senator Aquino was able to propose key amendments to the 2009 GAA that seek to tighten congressional oversight on the executive’s use of public funds.

Champion of Human Rights and People’s Participation

At the heart of all legislative and policy-making initiatives is the development and welfare of the people. Senator Aquino has sought the proper relocation of informal settlers and the delineation of authority of parties involved in demolitions such as the MMDA. The bill amending the UDHA is currently underway.

Through his privilege speeches, Senator Aquino has drawn attention to the plight of desaparecidos and victims of extra-judicial killings.

He introduced substantial amendments to the Cooperative Code to make it more responsive to the needs of the marginalized sector for which the code was enacted. They are meant to strengthen the cooperative movement by providing for transparent measures for members and officers of cooperatives.

He is also part of the bicameral debates on the Anti-Torture Act.

Accountability to the People

Senator Aquino actively participated in the hearings that investigated a number of reported scandals involving the alleged misuse of public funds, such as the ZTE-NBN deal, the Euro Generals and the Fertilizer Fund scam. These hearings brought to light the need for increased transparency and accountability in the disbursal of taxpayers’ money.

Integrity of the Senate

The series of scandals that stain the reputation of our government has also challenged the Senate of the Philippines as an institution. The recent attempts to amend the Constitution, for instance, have compelled our Senators, including Senator Aquino, to firmly assert their defiant stand on this issue.

Energy Sector

Senator Aquino has been vigilant in the hearings regarding the sale of TRANSCO and PNOC-EDC. Much of his time and energy was spent on the EPIRA and TRANSCO amendments, questioning the sale of revenue generating assets prior to the privatization of key government corporations. Senator Aquino sought clarification as to whether the sales of these assets were part of a long-term energy development plan or not to ensure that the long-term impact of losing these assets have been considered prior to their sales.

National Integrity

Senator Aquino voted “NO” to the controversial JPEPA because he believed that the Filipino people deserved a better negotiated and mutually beneficial treaty.

The public life of Manny Villar straddles both the worlds of business and politics. He is one of the few who managed to excel in both.

Working Student

image He was born to a simple family in Moriones, Tondo, Manila. His father, Manuel Montalban Villar, Sr., a government employee, hailed from Cabatuan, Iloilo and his mother Curita Bamba, a seafood dealer, came from Pampanga and Bataan. Manny is the second child in a brood of nine. At a very young age, he was already helping his mother sell shrimp and fish in the Divisoria Market. With the burning desire for a better future and a strong determination to improve his family’s living conditions, Manny worked hard in selling shrimps and fish to be able to send himself to school.

“I learned from my mother what it takes to be an entrepreneur,” he revealed. “And it means working really hard to achieve your dreams.” In Divisoria, he marveled at the volume of sales that Chinese merchants were making, thus he vowed early on to become an entrepreneur.

Hard work, persistence, and perseverance became his guiding principles in life. This earned him the title “Mr. Sipag at Tiyaga.”

He continues to inspire Filipinos with his life story and encourages each and every kababayan to improve their quality of life and fulfill their dreams through the very values he believes in — “sipag at tiyaga.”

Entrepreneur

image Manny Villar was a working student at the University of the Philippines, the premier institution of higher learning in the country, where he obtained his undergraduate and master’s degree in business administration and accountancy. By then, he was also putting in long hours as a fish and shrimp trader, where the action starts at the ungodly hours of the morning when the catch lands in the market.

After graduation, he tried his hand as an accountant at the country’s biggest accounting firm, Sycip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV & Co). He resigned shortly though to venture on his own seafood delivery business.

When a restaurant he was delivering stocks to did not pay him, he printed out “meal tickets” which he persuaded the restaurant owners to honor. He then sold these tickets at a discounted price to office workers. It took him one year to liquidate his receivables.

He worked briefly as a financial analyst at the Private Development Corporation of the Philippines. His job was to sell World Bank loans, despite the attractive rates of which there were no takers. Convinced that he could make it on his own again, he quit his job and promptly availed of one of the loans.

So with an initial capital of P10,000 in 1975, Villar purchased two reconditioned trucks and started his sand-and-gravel business in Las Piñas.

Housing Innovator

It is here while delivering construction materials to big developers that Manny Villar came up with the idea of selling house and lot packages when the convention then was for homeowners to buy lots and build on them.

Manny Villar became the housing industry leader, and the biggest homebuilder in Southeast Asia, having built more than 100,000 houses for the poor and middle class Filipino families.

He then initiated mass housing projects to achieve economies of scale. His various innovations practically created the country’s mass housing industry. The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism calls him “the dean of the (Philippine) real estate industry.”

Awards and Distinctions

image For his business achievements, he was made cover story in the Far Eastern Economic Review. And his life story was also featured in Asiaweek, Forbes, AsiaMoney and Asian Business Review.

He garnered various awards such as the Ten Outstanding Young Men Award (1986) by the Philippine Jaycees, Agora Award for Outstanding Achievement in Marketing Management (1989), Most Outstanding CPA by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (1990) and Most Outstanding UP Alumnus (1991).

Through the years, universities and colleges all over the country have conferred upon Villar honorary degrees in various fields in recognition of his exemplary performance in public service, his pioneering initiatives and innovations that revolutionalized the country’s mass housing and real estate industry, and his distinct role in the enactment of economic and social reform laws that are vital in sustaining the country’s economic momentum and improvement of the lives of Filipinos, particularly the cause of small and medium enterprises.

Among these universities and colleges that have bestowed Honoris Causa to Villar are: Adamson University, Doctor of Science; Bataan Polytechnic State College, Doctor of Humanities; Bulacan State University, Doctor of Humanities; Cagayan State University, Doctor of Humanities; Central Luzon State University, Doctor of Humanities; Foundation University (Dumaguete), Doctor of Humanities; Laguna State Polytechnic College, Doctor of Humanities and Entrepreneurship; Pangasinan State University, Doctor of Development Management; Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, Doctor of Business Administration; Ramon Magsaysay Technological University, Doctor of Entrepreneurial Management; Romblon State College, Doctor of Humanities; Tarlac State University, Doctor of Public Administration; Wesleyan University-Philippines, Doctor of Humanities; and Western Visayas College of Science and Technology, Doctor of Technology in Entrepreneurial Management.

Political Career

image In a stunning political debut in 1992, Villar won with the most overwhelming mandate among congressmen in Metro Manila. He promptly applied his economic and managerial expertise as a key member of the House’s economic team, marshalling in economic reform measures of the Ramos Administration such as the New Foreign Investments Act and the restructuring of the Central Bank of the Philippines. He was the House representative in the government’s negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C. in 1992.

He also oversaw various infrastructure projects in his districts like the construction of concrete roads and the Alabang-Zapote Flyover. He introduced the “Friendship Route” to ease the traffic problems in southern Manila by persuading subdivision homeowners to open up their roads to the general public.

He succeeded in passing Republic Act 8003 “Declaring Certain Areas in Las Piñas as Tourist Spots.” The law formalized his program of rehabilitating historical and cultural landmarks in Las Piñas starting with the world-famous Bamboo Organ Church. The ongoing project dubbed as “Las Piñas Historical Corridor” covers the stretch of the Old District and may even rival the Intramuros and Vigan restoration projects.

A staunch environmentalist, he initiated a privately funded tree planting drive in his district. He developed a P10-million tree nursery beside his home. He also quietly led a dedicated tree-planting drive complete with maintenance and watering of tree seedlings planted in the open spaces of the community.

When he realized that many poor students could not go to school because they do not even have fare money, he organized the “Manpower on Wheels” Program, a livelihood training school housed in a van that makes the rounds in depressed areas. The program has since produced more than 5,000 graduates and has been awarded by various government and civic organizations for its innovative scheme.

During his first term, he steered Las Piñas and Muntinlupa to cityhood. He pointed out: “As a developer, I have always envisioned these two communities as the ‘Twin Cities of the South’ of Manila. In fact, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa are the two fastest growing communities in the country today.”

For his constituency work and personal vow, he extended grants of home sites to some 10,000 poor families in Barangay CAA, Las Piñas City. Two major roads were also opened in his district: the Sucat-Pulanglupa Link Road to Parañaque and the Zapote-Molino (Daang Hari) Link Road to Cavite, thus alleviating the traffic congestion in the area.

During his second term, he was able to upgrade the Las Piñas District Hospital with a new building and better facilities. He also launched the “Sagip-Bukas” Drug Prevention Program on all the private and public schools of Las Piñas to educate the youth about the dangers of drug abuse. He also nationalized the Las Piñas High School to upgrade its facilities.

By the end of his second term of office, Villar had already proven beyond doubt his capacity for excellence as a true Filipino entrepreneur and a brilliant public servant who can get things done.

Champion for Entrepreneurs

image In 1995, Manny Villar ran for re-election and won an unprecedented 142,000 votes, the highest number of votes for a congressman in the entire country. Winning media acclaim as an outstanding congressman as well as the respect and recognition of his peers, he was elected to chair the Committee on Entrepreneurship.

As one of the leading entrepreneurs in the country, he championed the cause of small and medium-sized enterprises. He authored and passed into law the landmark New Magna Carta for Small and Medium Enterprises (RA 8289). He initiated creative legislation such as the establishment of the Small and Medium Enterprises Stock Exchange and Business One-Stop-Shop centers, the latter he immediately implemented in Las Piñas City with the help of local officials.

Speaker of the House

It was no surprise then to those in the know when he gained the remarkable acclaim of 171 of 220 congressmen as the Speaker of the 11th Congress of the House of Representatives.

In a time when the country is slowly recovering from a host of economic and political crises, the election of the ‘brown taipan’ at the helm of Congress signaled a watershed event in the Philippine political history. The rise of Manny Villar ushered in a new consensus of leadership based on managerial skills and not simply on oratory and rhetoric.

By his first year in office, Villar undertook three pathbreaking reforms. He succeeded in marshalling consensus in the House to reform the ‘pork barrel’ system by limiting congressional discretion projects to the set parameters of the Executive’s development policies. Secondly, he launched a revamp of leadership by appointing at least seven neophyte congressmen to head powerful committees like ecology and banks. Finally, he set a strong and principled stance on environment protection legislation with the passage of the “Clean Air Act,” a measure that for more than ten years and three previous congresses were not able to pass.

On his second year in office, Manny Villar steered the 11th Congress into a record-breaking achievement in legislation and economic reforms. Among the pioneering measures he shepherded into law were the Retail Trade Liberization Act, the New Central Bank Act, the New Securities Code, and the New Banking Act.

Senator of the Republic

image In the national elections held last May 14, 2001, despite being a relative newcomer in national politics, Manny Villar posted one of the most impressive showings in the national polls. On his first day in office, he filed 204 bills covering a comprehensive legislative program of action— the first among neophyte senators and the third highest filer among the senators of the 12th Congress of the Philippines.

After being elected by his colleagues, he assumed the position of Senate President Pro-Tempore, the second to the highest post in the higher Chamber of Congress. He is presently the Chairman of the Committee on Finance that is in charge of all deliberations and discussions on the national budget of the country and the Committee on Public Order and Illegal Drugs. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations and Committee on Agriculture. He authored 44 laws during the 12th Congress, among them are: RA 9178 Barangay Micro Business Enterprises Act, RA 9189 Overseas Absentee Voting Act, RA 9208 Anti-Trafficking of Persons Act, RA 9257 An Act Granting Additional Benefits and Privileges to Senior Citizens, and RA 9262 Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act. He has filed Bills aimed at providing business opportunities for the people and improving the Filipinos’ quality of life through basic health care, decent shelters, responsive social services, and high quality education.

Outside the Senate’s halls, Villar actively sponsors the Sipag at Tiyaga Caravan Kaalaman, a livelihood training program that provides skills and inspiration to people that will allow them to venture into their own businesses. The caravan travels all over the country conducting livelihood seminars that are consistently widely attended and appreciated.

He has also spearheaded the building of schools, sending out medical missions and setting up relief operations whenever or wherever needed. He led the inauguration of the Las Piñas-Muntinlupa-Laguna-Cavite (LPMLC) link road, more popularly known as Daang Hari, as part of his road improvement program aimed at easing traffic in the south of Metro Manila. According to him, an efficient and rationalized road network is one of the fundamental requirements in improving commerce and spurring economic progress.

In February 2004, he was elected as President of the Nacionalista Party—the country’s oldest and grandest political party. He was also named the Most Distinguished UP Alumnus—the highest recognition given by the UP Alumni Association—for his exemplary public service and achievements.

Senator Manny Villar, despite his numerous accomplishments and heroism, has remained simple and unaffected. A true family man, he is a devoted husband to Congresswoman Cynthia A. Villar (Lone District of Las Piñas), and a loving father to sons Paolo and Mark and daughter Camille.

PROFILE: GILBERT TEODORO, JR.

image

GILBERTO “GIBO” COJUANGCO TEODORO, JR.

image In a time of great change, a beacon is needed to guide the Filipinos. Gilberto “Gibo” Cojuangco Teodoro, Jr. can be that beacon.

Gibo is the only son of former Social Security System (SSS) administrator Gilberto Teodoro, Sr. and former Batasang Pambansa member Mercedes Cojuangco-Teodoro. During his elementary and high school days at Xavier School in San Juan City, Gibo was the tall, lanky, and curly-haired kid who wore teeth and back braces. But the young Gibo was exceptionally smart and genial. He may have come from a prolific family, but Gibo was neither sheltered nor a snob. Growing up, he had an early taste of politics and he showed great interest for public service..

STRONG SENSE OF JUSTICE

image He was elected Kabataang Barangay president in his hometown Tarlac in 1980 and concurrently became Central Luzon Kabataang Barangay president for five years. He was bona fide member of the Sanguniang Panlalawigan of Tarlac from 1980 to 1986.

He furthered his education at the De La Salle University Manila, graduating with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Commerce Major in Financial Institutions in 1984. A strong sense of justice inspired him to pursue a Law degree at University of the Philippines, where he received the Dean’s Medal for Academic Excellence in 1989—the same year he topped the Philippine Bar exams. Subsequently, he passed the New York State Bar examinations in 1997.

Gibo completed his masters degree at the Harvard Law School in Massachusetts and, just early this year, he was given the first honorary Doctor of Laws degree by West Negros University of Bacolod.

POLITICAL CAREER

image For seven years, Gibo practiced his profession at the Estelito Mendoza Law Firm until his congressional candidacy in 1998. By his own merits, Gibo won and became Tarlac’s First District Representative for three terms (nine years). While in congress, Gibo was a proponent of human rights, economic development, and progress.

Aside from being a licensed commercial pilot, he also holds rank as colonel in the Philippine Air Force Reserve Force.

Gibo, 45, is married to present Tarlac First district Representative Monica “Nikki” Prieto-Teodoro and they have one son named Jaime Gilberto.

As the 34th and youngest Department of National Defense Secretary, Gibo is headstrong on preserving the security of the country. As the concurrent Chairman of National Disaster Coordinating Council, he is proactive and involved in disaster management.

EEVEE: NESCAFE 3in1 SOUNDSKOOL 2009 GRAND WINNER – THE PRIDE OF MINDANAO!

Eevee

Photo above courtesy of Ancel May Brillantes.

9AM. Just got up for the PACQUIAO-COTTO fight. The entire family stayed past midnight at the NINOY AQUINO STADIUM to cheer for CRAIG JOHN NENIEL, a family member who is the DRUMMER of the rock band EEVEE who bested 13 other national finalists as they rocked the stage with 14 famous local rock bands.

EEVEE made it as the LONE REPRESENTATIVE OF DAVAO and one of the three for the entire MINDANAO landing as the SOLE GRAND WINNER of NESCAFE 3in1 SOUNDSKOOL 2009! Simplicity, clarity, relevance of its music plus great talent made them winners! We’re so proud indeed! Para sa Davao! Astig!

Last night, I found myself suddenly back in my good old rock and roll days as I watched the performances of various rock bands both finalists and mentors. Pinoys got talent indeed!. Rock and roll will always be rock and roll!

Well, the EEVEE only got a few audience cheering last night because most finalists came from LUZON and VISAYAS bringing with them lots of supporters. Nonetheless, 5 heads plus Nico and a few others clapping and shouting for the EEVEE added a good recipe for SUCCESS! Congrats!

FACEBOOK’S QUOTABLE QUOTES – 11052009

In fairness, time has been so kind to me. I may have experienced everything and having been to all the extremes of life, I’m a survivor. A VP once asked me if I’m the type of guy that will swim when thrown in any body of water, I said yes although I’m not a good swimmer. Hahaha. Well, I can suit any situation. Indeed, no pain, no gain! I am thankful that life made me even more competent and stronger. God is good!

————————————————————-

Always believe in yourself and you will definitely make it no matter how hard the challenges can be! Do not be intimidated by the tides of darkness and failure because they are intended to make you more stronger to win your battles. Trust your capabilities. Know your weaknesses. Strive hard to improve and grow. Victory nears those who works hard to achieve one. Just my two cents!

————————————————————-

Forgetfulness. A gift of God bestowed upon debtors in compensation for their destitution of conscience. Well, Ambrose Bierce was right! I wonder if people will get to remember settling off their debts than hiding in the shadows of "intentional forgetting". Our folks taught us to always return whatever is borrowed. I wonder if some really grew up orphaned that they missed such teaching! Tsk. THE CREDIT COLLECTOR. Bow!

MANNY PACQUIAO VS MIGUEL COTTO – MANNY WINS! COTTO WAS A TOUGH FIGHER TOO!

Pacman

CONCLUSION

Manny Pacquiao won the fight at Round 12 but it was remarkable as well that Miguel Cotto survived and fought so well amidst the fact that he was less cheered as an UNDERDOG. He is a great fighter too far better than Pacman’s recent foes! Kudos to both fighters!

FYI. Z Gorres, a Filipino boxer as well won but he is now in a coma after his skull was opened due to injury after the fight. As we rejoice over the victory of Manny Pacquiao, let us put time to pray for Z GORRES. He is a Filipino Hero as well! He brought pride to the Philippines!

I have made a topic #ZGORRES at TWITTER where you can RT messages. You can check #PACQUIAO and #PACMANFTW. We are looking forward and praying hard for his immediate recovery as we celebrate the two victories for our two great fighters – GORRES and PACQUIAO! Kudos to all!

A FATHER’S LAST WISH – NINOY’S LETTER TO HIS SON NOYNOY

Ninoy Aquino-Noynoy Aquino

—————————————–
August 25, 1973
Fort
11:30pm

Mr. Benigno S.. Aquino III
P E R S O N A L

My dearest Son:

One of these days , when you have completed your studies I am sure you will have the opportunity to visit many countries. And in your travels you will witness a bullfight.

In Spanish bullfighting as you know, a man, the matador, is pitted against an angry bull. The man goads the bull to extreme anger and madness. Then a moment comes when the bull, maddened, bleeding and covered
with darts, feeling his last moment has come, stops rushing about and grimly turns his face on the man with the scarlet “muleta” and sword. The Spaniards call this “the moment of truth.” This is the climax of the bullfight.

This afternoon, I have arrived at my own moment of truth. After a lengthy conference with my lawyers, Senators Jovito R. Salonga and Lorenzo M. Tanada I made a very crucial and vital decision that will surely affect all our lives: mommie’s, your sisters’, yours and all our loved ones as well as mine.

I have decided not to participate in the proceedings of the Military Commission assigned to try the charges filed
against me by the army prosecution staff. As you know, I’ve been charged with illegal possession of firearms,
violation of RA 1700 otherwise known as the “Anti-Subversion Act” and murder.

You are still too young to grasp the full impact of my decision. Briefly: by not participating in the proceedings, I will not be represented by counsel, the prosecution will present its witnesses without any cross examinations, I will not put up any defense, I will remain passive and quiet through the entire trial and I will merely await the verdict. Inasmuch as it will be a completely one-sided affair, I suppose it is reasonable to expect the maximum penalty will be given to me. I expect to be sentenced to imprisonment the rest of my natural life, or possibly be sent to stand before a firing squad. By adopting the course of action I decided upon this afternoon, I have literally decided to walk into the very jaws of death.

You may ask: why did you do it? Son, my decision is an act of conscience. It is an act of protest against the structures of injustice that have been imposed upon our hapless countrymen. Futile and puny, as it will surely appear to many, it is my last act of defiance against tyranny and dictatorship.

You are my only son. You carry my name and the name of my father. I have no material wealth to leave you. I never had time to make money while I was in the hire of our people. For this I am very sorry. I had hopes of building a little nest egg for you. I bought a ranch in Masbatein the hope that after ten or fifteen years, the coconut trees I planted there would be yielding enough to assure you a modest but comfortable existence.

Unfortunately, I had to sell all our properties as I fought battle after political battle as a beleaguered member of the opposition. And after the last battle, I had more obligations than assets. The only valuable asset I can bequeath to you now is the name you carry. I have tried my best during my years of public service to keep that name untarnished and respected, unmarked by sorry compromises for expediency. I now pass it on to you, as good, I pray, as when my father, your grandfather passed it on to me.

I prepared a statement which I intend to read before the military commission on Monday at the opening of my trial. I hope the commission members will be understanding and kind enough to allow me to read my statement into the record. This may well be my first and only participation in the entire proceedings. In this statement, I said: Some people suggested that I beg for mercy from the present powers that be. Son, this I cannot do in conscience. I would rather die on my feet with honor, than live on bended knees in shame.

Your great grandfather, Gen. Servilliano Aquino was twice condemned to death by both the Spaniards and the American colonizers. Fortunately, he survived both by a twist of fate. Your grandfather, my father was also imprisoned by the Americans because he loved his people more than the Americans who colonized us. He was finally vindicated. Our ancestors have shared the pains, the sorrows and the anguish of Mother Filipinas when she was in bondage. It is a rare privilege for me to join the Motherland in the dark dungeon where she was led back by one of her own sons whom she lavished with love and glory.

I ended my statement thus: I have chosen to follow my conscience and accept the tyrant’s revenge.

It takes little effort to stop a tyrant. I have no doubt in the ultimate victory of right over wrong, of evil over good, in the awakening of the Filipino.

Forgive me for passing unto your young shoulders the great responsibility for our family. I trust you will love your mother and your sisters and lavish them with the care and protection I would have given them.

I was barely fifteen years old when my father died. His death was my most traumatic experience. I loved and
hero-worshipped him so much, I wanted to join him in his grave when he passed away. But as in all sorrows, eventually they are washed away by the rains of time.

In the coming years, I hope you will study very hard so that you will have a solid foundation on which to build your future. I may no longer be around to give you my fatherly advice. I have asked many of your uncles to help you along should the need arise and I pray you will have the humility to drink from their fountain of experiences.

Look after your two younger sisters with understanding and affection. Viel and Krissy will need your umbrella of protection for a long time. Krissy is still very young and fate has been most unkind to both of us. Our parting came too soon. Please make up for me. Take care of her as I would have taken care of her with patience and warm affection.

Finally, stand by your mother as she stood beside me through the buffeting winds of crisis and uncertainties firm and resolute and uncowed. I pray to God, you inherit her indomitable spirit and her rare brand of silent courage.

I had hopes of introducing you to my friends, showing you the world and guide you through the maze of survival. I am afraid, you will now have to go it alone without your guide. The only advice I can give you: Live with honor and follow your conscience.

There is no greater nation on earth than our Motherland. No greater people than our own. Serve them with all your heart, with all your might and with all your strength. Son, the ball is now in your hands.

Lovingly,
Dad

(A special report from a volunteer)

Oct 21st, 2009 by ella

Dear friends,

I’m asking your help to spread the word. Tulungan po ninyo akong ikalat ito. Beyond this, we should also demand action. I disabled a plugin so you can copy the photos of relief goods rotting in DSWD warehouses. You can link this post to your blogs, facebook, websites etc. You can also email the photos.

Philippine News (US based Philippine newspaper) will use this as its front page story this week. Every Filipino has the right to know where the tons of donations from the UN and other counties go. Kahit po nakakahiya sa mga nag-donate. Kung sa ganitong paraan, matutulungan natin ang mga nasalanta, then by all means, let’s do it.

For those who have the time, please try to volunteer sa DSWD warehouses. Getting in was not easy. A friend had to put in a word for us.

Please read on and good luck to us.

Ella

Kahapon, tinanong ng Philippine News si DSWD Secretary Esperanza Cabral:

Editor of Philippine News: Why are the relief goods in DSWD warehouses not moving?

DSWD Secretary Esperanza Cabral: Wala kasing volunteers.

This short interview was done over the phone. Philippine News wanted to hear her side pero ayaw niyang makipag-usap sa press.

I don’t want to accuse her of corruption but at the very least she is showing signs of being totally incompetent. We are in a state of calamity where every second counts. May namamatay araw-araw dahil sa sakit.

In my opinion, these deaths could have been prevented if Secretary Cabral had tried a little harder to do her job.

Deaths from Philippine storms nears 1,000

“Tropical Storm Ketsana left 420 dead and 37 missing when it flooded 80 percent of Manila on September 26, a disaster the government said affected 4.35 million people.

Some areas are still flooded three weeks later and 189,000 people remain in evacuation centres,

Typhoon Parma hit the northern Philippines on October 3 and lingered as a tropical storm for a week, triggering landslides that killed 438 people and leaving 51 missing mostly in mountain communities.

The government agency said Parma affected 4.16 million people, including more than 32,000 who remain at evacuation centres.”

—————————————————————————

During the first week after the storm, lumabas ang “bayanihan spirit” ng mga Pinoy. “Makatulong lang kahi’t konti,” katwiran nila.

kung walang volunteers, ano ‘to, komiks?

From Stella Arnaldo’s blog:

“At the offices of many civic groups and private organizations, hundreds of people showed up to volunteer in packing relief goods.

At the Tulong Bayan center at the Expo Centro in Cubao, Most of the volunteers were adolescents as young as 10 years old, along with their kuya or ate in high school and college.

They came in huge numbers, many of them barkadas, classmates or siblings, dressed just in their tees and shorts, wearing their Havaianas. All were just enthusiastic to do their share!

GMA asked world for donations

Our government begged the world for more donations. Sumagot ang buong mundo sa ating panawagan. In less than three weeks, dumaong ang mga barko, ibinaba mula sa mga cargo planes, i-diniliver ng mga trak at container vans ang sandamakmak na relief goods. Cash donations were in the millions of dollars.

But these donations must be coursed through DSWD

Nagpalabas ng directive ang pangulo. Individuals, private companies and other nations were ENCOURAGED to send their donations to DSWD. I blogged about it here and the video of her announcement here.

This PGMA directive sounded suspicious to me then. Now I know why. Here’s the story.

A group of eight people, your ate Ella included, went to one of DSWD warehouses to help in repacking relief goods. We know they need volunteers pero hindi namin akalaing WALANG TAO TALAGA SA LOOB NG WAREHOUSE!

As in sa isang humongous warehouse (1000++ sq.m) NA PUNONG-PUNO NG RELIEF GOODS HANGGANG BUBONG, ISANG DSWD employee lang at ISANG SECURITY GUARD ang tao!!

Kailangang magpa-register at i-schedule ang volunteering

    1) UNICEF Registration (as a volunteer)

The warehouse can only take as much as 50 volunteers at a time or per shift. Here you will find that there is a 4-hour shift, and an option for a 6-hour shift for the volunteers to indicate their availability.

What “volunteers”? Nasaan?

Aside from the 8 of us? Nope, there was nobody there.

I know somebody who wanted to volunteer many times. She was always bumped off, laging nirere-schedule kasi “there were too many volunteers” daw. At tuwing Sunday lang daw puwede. What the hell is going on here?

The relief goods are not going anywhere

We arrived at about 8 am and left by midafternoon and yes, you guessed it right. Walang ibang dumating.

The relief goods are not moving. By the way things look, they are not going anywhere.

LET THE PICTURES DO THE TALKING

I wonder why.

Parang haunted warehouse ang dating. May multo na yata.

pots and pans

At walang katapusang kaldero pa ulit

delata 2

Sayang ‘yung imported.

kumot
Ano kaya ang laman nito? Hindi rin pinabuksan. Pang-special victim din kaya ito? (teka, dito nga pala galing ‘yung mga kumot)

jica
Mahiwagang mga kahon from Japan Aid.

japan
“Imported” are not included, we have concluded.

toys

pork and beans
PORK AND BEANS? Yup, you’d think kasama ito sa relief bag. Pork and beans lang ‘to, puwede na sigurong ipamigay,

close up pork and beans
Naaah! “Imported” pork and beans from Spain po ito. Sorry, hindi pa rin included

Now let’s take a look at what a victim will get from DSWD

sa loob ng kaldero
Look Ma, sampung lata ng sardinas! How generous! Kaldero ang unang ilalagay sa sako. Sabong panglaba (bar soap) at sampung sardinas sa ilalim. Siyam na sabon sa gilid ng kaldero. Local goods lahat syempre.

tuwalya at napkin
Tapos papatungan ng isang tuwalya at isang pack ng sanitary napkin.

kumot

sako
Last but not the least, lalagyan ng dalawang banig.

tinatahi

Do not delay

do not delay

YOU THINK?? WTF is the matter with these people? ISANG BUWAN!! Do you mean “do not delay ang dati nang delayed”?? Shet.

Halatang-halata.

Marami pang pabubulukin

shipment
Wow! May bagong shipment na naman! At the rate DSWD is moving, next year na madi-discover kung ano ang laman ng mga kahong ito.

nutri biscuit

“The first of two of the largest high-energy food shipments from the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) arrived in the country two days ago for victims of storm “Ondoy” and typhoon “Pepeng.”

The biscuits were fortified with essential vitamins and minerals for supplementary feeding to children, pregnant women and the elderly in evacuation camps. Another 100 tons of biscuits will arrive on Oct. 24, in a continuing effort to provide food assistance to flood victims.

Conclusion

At nandoon pa rin sa loob ang mga imported relief goods, safe, sound and packed as the day they arrived.

Millions of dollars in donations, walang extrang pang-gasolina.

I’m sure they are more than willing to help. Time is of the essence. Huwag kayong suwapang.

You are the government. You have the power, the resources and the money. You just have to really care.

    BLOG NI ELLA: DEE-ESS-DABALYOO-DI

    Dee-ess-dabalyoo-di

    Oct 2nd, 2009 by ella

Parang sing-song ang Dee-ess-dabalyoo-di, grabe. Annoying na, irritating pa. Ang sakit sa tenga kainis

I don’t get this.

“Donations done straight to private individuals are subject to donor’s tax, “BIR Commissioner Sixto Esquivias said. “Donations to government and charitable institutions are exempt.” Full report here

Parang may mali dito. Pakshet yata ah.

I know, I know, meron talagang donor’s tax sa ating batas pero joskonaman, hindi kaya dapat i-suspend o kaya i-waive muna ‘yon?

It’s not discouraging unscrupulous tax evaders. It’s discouraging donations to private individuals.

This is how I understand it. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

My one million peso donation will be subject to 2-15% donor’s tax dahil hindi ko pinadaan sa DSWD. Gawin na nating 15%. Let’s do the math, guys.

WTF!? Tama ba ‘yon? Naku ha, di bale na lang. Thanks but no thanks.

    Conclusion

Interesting…very interesting indeed.

  • Kickback tax (kick the victims when they turn their backs)?
  • Kotong sa biktima tax?
  • My cut tax?
  • Caviar tax?
  • Beach house tax? (cute hehe)
  • Who gives a shit to the victims tax?

TIPS: ON CAREER GROWTH & SUCCESS

By the time you’re 30, your salary should be P120,000

    - by Dan Magallanes

Philippine Daily Inquirer (October 7, 2007)

YES, you read it right. By the time you reach the age of 30, your salary level should be four times your age. If not, go and check what’s wrong with your career. See a career doctor. Don’t trust your self-assessment.

imageIt is not a do-it-yourself thing. There was a time I was experiencing a severe stiffness in my neck and I was supposed to meet the CEO of a multinational company over dinner in Hong Kong. On my way to the airport I dropped in at Lourdes Hospital to see its director, Dr. Jose M. Pujalte, a world-class orthopedic surgeon. He prescribed a tiny tablet which cost me more than the price of an Emma Shapplin CD. But presto, upon reaching the check-in counter at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, I felt relieved and ready for the short flight and brain boggling meeting that very same day.

Lesson in life–don’t trust yourself in areas beyond your competencies. Farm it out. Hire a professional consultant. I am a consultant myself, but beyond my expertise, I hire only the best. I am prepared to pay the high price because quality for me is expensive. Career planning has being done in the first world a long time ago. In the Philippines, we don’t do it that’s why we still remain in the third world class. It becomes a dictate from home.

When the boom for nursing employment in the US and UK hits the country, everybody wants to become a "nurse." This is motivated by the dollar syndrome and the opportunity to bring the whole family to the land of milk and honey–a promise of comfortable and easy life. Even licensed doctors are burning their brows again to study nursing and swiftly get to the US. High school graduates are no longer given the chance to pursue a career where they will eventually become happier.

Of course, it is the responsibility of the parents to guide them on what course to take in relation to their capability and interest. But it is still the best move to hire a professional career consultant. Planning should start from the time you pursue a degree. But it is not too late for you now if you will only keep an open mind.

A group of friends of mine from abroad who are experienced professional career consultants pooled themselves together and established a career consulting office despite of my objection that it will not prosper in the Philippines at that time–or even now. Seven months later, they all decided to pack up and head to where they uprooted themselves. In my history as a headhunter for 17 years, I only got three appointments for career counseling. One was an executive of a mall, the second of a well-known television entertainer and the third, a very popular clothes designer in the ’80s.

I have observed that most of our executives and professionals at any point in their career would rather buy a high-end mobile phone or an expensive designer bag than pay a career consultant for their stagnant or sagging career. They tend to forget that they have to live on a parallel lifestyle based on their position in the company and of course their take-home pay. If you are bent on having a good career, you have to focus on how you will attain it at a certain paradigm. It is not wanting but not doing anything.

On one occasion that I was invited to speak before a huge audience composed of young managers. I asked them to raise their hands if they want to become successful in their career. Everybody did. But when I asked if they have made a thorough check on where they were heading, no one braved the challenge.

I have interviewed hundreds and hundreds of executives and professionals in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, USA, Europe and even as far as Samoa and I have seen why only a few are successful. New graduates, forget about where you got your degree. I never look at the so-called "top universities." I claim to pioneer in promoting this attitude with my multinational client-companies.

Have you ever wondered why this 38-year-old guy who earned his degree from a not-so-known college in the southern part of the country got a job which offered a whooping basic salary of P500,000 per month plus dizzying perks? You read it right: half a million pesos on the 30th day of every month.

This executive bested nine other candidates who are mostly graduates of "top universities" in the Philippines fielded by other headhunters. The interview process was tedious. First interview was done in Manila; second in Bangkok; third in Singapore. Then there were only four shortlisted candidates. The fifth interview was done in Hong Kong. A week later, I got a call from the chair of the company in the US and was asked to send my candidate to the US on a first-class seat that very same week for a courtesy call with the big bosses. He got the job. He was given a signing bonus of $50,000.

The secret? MBA? No, he does not have one and does not aspire to have one. It was his attitude, the quality of his experiences and accomplishments, capped by the desire to make things "happen" now.

If you do not have at least 10 years of meaningful work experience occupying a manager’s position in your current employ, then you don’t need an MBA. Most of the top executives I placed do not carry graduate degrees. Being an honor graduate is likewise unimportant. I do not look at the transcript of records. I often wondered why most of the summa, magna and cum laude graduates do not make it to the top. My profession has shown me the reasons.

One: honor graduates tend to be perfectionist and idealistic.

Two: they have high career expectations within a short period of time because they know they are the best.

Three: they have little patience. Since they are intelligent, they want things done their way, within their time frame which is impossible in a corporate arena. People skills matter. Team work counts. You are not alone in your department.

I once plucked a 28-year-old guy who works as communications officer for an international NGO. Impressed with his impeccable oral communication skills, I again concluded this fellow is a graduate of a so-so college.

True enough–he obtained his bachelor’s degree from an up-town college in the south. He speaks with elan.

At a young age, he has already published a book on corporate social responsibility which is being used as the guide book of all the worldwide offices of the NGO where he worked with. He was asked by his employ to travel to different countries to speak about the topic he had written. I advised and moved him to a more responsible position with a blue-chip company for three times his present salary.

The company where I placed him was taken over by another giant. He called me up for advice. I coached him to move to another assignment. Other managers in his level decided to stay on. For three months, he could not find a job better or even parallel to his previous compensation, experience and qualifications. He started to get nervous. He dropped in my office one late afternoon and invited me for coffee. After a thorough analysis of everything in his career life, I told him to capitalize on his creative juices. Put on a new pair of shoes–be an entrepreneur. That was three months before Christmas.

On his first month, he already earned his salary for the first quarter of the following year. Capital? No. It is trusting the expert to do the thinking for him. His fellow managers who remained during the acquisition process were later advised on redundancy of their position. They lost their jobs.

It is true that career professionals move for better pay. But it should not be the monetary consideration all the time if you really want a high-flying career. Don’t move just because the work is near the place where you live. Don’t move because you just want to move. Pay an expert the way you pay for a nice-looking Louis Vuitton purse or a top-of-the-line mobile phone.

The best career is in the Philippines nowadays. Blue-chip companies are coming our way. This is the place to become successful. The most comfortable life is here. You leave the country because you feel you cannot make it here. If you cannot make it here, you cannot make it anywhere. Be a winner in your own country.

Remember, by the time you reach the age of 30, your salary should be four times your age.

NEWS: MOST HATED JACQUE BERMEJO ON ABS-CBN NEWS

OFW ‘abused’ after mistaken Facebook post on Ondoy

    abs-cbnNEWS.com | 09/29/2009 6:21 PM

A controversial statement allegedly made by a Filipina overseas worker in Dubai that mocked Filipino victims of tropical storm Ondoy sparked negative reactions among many Pinoys here and abroad.

Jacque Bermejo has been the target of hate threads from Filipinos after someone used her identity to post a very offensive statement against Pinoys affected by the onslaught of tropical storm Ondoy on social networking site, Facebook.

“buti n lng am hir in dubai! maybe so many sinners bak der! so yeah deserving wat hapend (sic),” the comment read.

The said statement generated more than 1,000 responses from Filipino Facebook users.

The comments included hate messages, accusations and threats from fellow Filipinos.

A user named “Ondoy” posted on September 28, 2009: “Hambalusin na yan!”

(sic)”

Pusa said: “naloka ako sa mga comments sa kanya sa multiply… kasi naman in times like this we should all unite and do our best to help and we don’t need negative thoughts. (sic)”

Alyssa stated: “she’s pathetic and lacks good moral. dummy.(sic)”

Several new accounts on Facebook were also created under her name by irate users.

    ‘A Victim Too’

However, in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau, the person behind the controversial name maintained her innocence.

Bermejo denied posting the insulting remarks on Facebook. The marketing executive is saddened by the comments she receives from fellow Filipinos for something she says she did not do.

“Pero naman kung ako siguro ang nakakita sa post na yun, mag iisip naman ako na, bakit naman niya gagawin iyan. Bakit niya ilalagay ang picture niya? Bakit niya ilalagay ang real identity niya? Parang bine-bait niya sarili niya na, ‘Ok, kill me’,” said Bermejo.

She explained that someone hacked her Facebook account and manipulated its contents two years ago. This prompted her to deactivate her account.

Furthermore, she brought the incident to the Dubai Police who advised her to just open another account.

She also revealed that accounts under her name in other social networking sites like Multiply and Friendster were not hers.

The hacker continued to manipulate the said sites often posting negative comments against her friends.

The last post that insulted people affected by the typhoon alarmed her. She said that after the post, many people started issuing threatening statements against her.

“Pero after this, itong post na ito, unang-unang ginawa ko kagabi umalis ako sa bahay ko. Doon ako natulog sa bahay ng mga kapatid ko kasi natatakot ako,” she said.

Her close friends could not help but feel sorry for what happened to her. They said their friend is clearly an innocent victim. They also appealed to fellow Filipinos to put an end to the issue.
“Gusto ko naman ma-clear yung (name) niya dahil hindi naman ganun si Jacque. And, kung sino ang gumawa nun, he is, something talaga is wrong sa kanya, dapat sana stop na yung mga ganung things eh,” said her friend “Mel”.

    ‘Official Statement’

A Facebook user posted Bermejo’s alleged official statement dated September 29, 2009 in the hopes of clearing her name.

She said that an unidentified source created the accounts using her name, her personal details, and pictures.

“Because of these incidents, I reported such abuses and sent my credentials to the administrators of such sites, particularly Facebook. I have been abused and am still being abused online in social networking websites such as Facebook, Friendster, Multiply etc,” Bermejo’s statement said.

Her friends called her up and informed her about the cruel “shoutout” on the Facebook account and the numerous comments from other users.

“These malicious statement(s) which are posted under account names Jacque or Jackie are not of my doing. It is unfortunate that such statements were maliciously attributed to me and I do sympathize and understand the adverse and somehow verbally violent reaction that has been elicited by such insensitive statements or posts. Rest assured, I have taken every legal step that can be done in this regard,” the statement added

“I am devastated and shocked at the extent my character, my personal information and private space have been violated,” she stated.

Bermejo has taken legal steps to address the problem. She sought the help of the Philippine Consulate in Dubai and the National Bureau of Immigration to identify the motive and person behind the moves to discredit her.

THE EPIC FLOOD OF MANILA AND WHY THE PHILIPPINES LACK RUBBER BOATS!

I’ve been wondering why of all the billions and billions of assistance we get from foreign countries and the trillions of budget we allocate annually, we barely have enough rubber boats and rescue equipments in our nation’s inventory when we know for a fact that we are prone to typhoons and calamities.

The Philippines can afford to send congressmen to the White House for a photo-ops while it cannot deploy a rescue team timely and armed with complete gears in Metro Manila! The government could have saved more lives and fulfill its mandate to protect the lives of Filipinos if only it had the resources and the political will to do so!

Brig Solas-Approved Inflatable Rescue Boats - Rescue C8The President can afford to travel along with her colleagues around the globe spending P3.3 billion of people’s money plus a lavish $20,000 dinner but cannot buy rubber boats? I do not have a personal grundge on her but based on what I read and see on the news, I cannot help but feel disappointed as a diligent taxpayer!

So where is Rep. Martin Romualdez now who was said to have shouldered the $20,000 lavish dinner in New York? Is he willing as well to donate $20,000 to the poor victims of Typhoon Ondoy? Is Rep. Danilo Suarez who paid $15,000 for a separate meal in Washington DC ready as well to donate $15,000 to help rebuild lives of poor victims?

Anyway, below is a news article I got online from The Philippine Star that could explain perhaps in partial why the country can afford to plane people to a PACQUIAO match but cannot deploy team of rescuers in Marikina City or better buy enough RUBBER BOATS! I do hope that all these would lead to a POSITIVE CHANGE! Thank you!

‘GMA used P800-million emergency fund for foreign trips’

By Jess Diaz (The Philippine Star) Updated August 15, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines – President Arroyo used up the government’s P800-million contingency fund for emergencies like calamities for her frequent foreign trips, Bukidnon Rep. Teofisto Guingona III revealed yesterday.

“She exhausted not only Malacañang’s travel

funds but also the P800-million appropriation for emergencies in the 2008 national budget,” he told radio station dzMM.

He said he based his revelation on a Commission on Audit (COA) report submitted to Speaker Prospero Nograles this week.

“I have a copy of the report. An assistant commissioner of COA even briefed us on their shocking findings,” he said.

Guingona said the COA findings show that the 2008 contingency fund was not enough for foreign travels and Mrs. Arroyo had to augment it by P120 million.

“The augmentation was also exhausted,” he added.

Guingona also said the President overspent for her foreign travels between 2003 and 2007 by P1.6 billion.

She has only P1.1 billion under the annual budgets but she spent P2.7 billion over that period, he said.

He said the House of Representatives should have discovered the excess spending during the budget hearings.

“But the House is dominated by the President’s allies, so they just turn a blind eye,” he said.

He accused the President of violating the annual budget law “because she could not augment what Congress had approved and authorized her to spend.”

He said he would demand during the forthcoming budget hearings details on how and when Malacañang’s travel funds and the appropriation for contingencies were used.

Mrs. Arroyo’s latest foreign travel was her weeklong working visit to the United States two weeks ago.

It has become controversial largely due to at least two expensive dinners the President and her entourage of more than 50 enjoyed in posh restaurants in Washington and New York City.

Sen. Francis Escudero has criticized Mrs. Arroyo’s frequent travels abroad, saying she has spent more than P3 billion in taxpayers’ money for them.

Before her latest US visit, she “circumnavigated” the globe by flying to Tokyo, then to Los Angeles, Colombia, Brazil, Dubai, and Hong Kong before returning to Manila, he said.

According to former Senate president Ernesto Maceda, Mrs. Arroyo has spent a total of P5.5 billion for more than 50 foreign trips she has made since 2001.

In a recent television interview, Maceda said appropriations in the annual budgets for the President’s trips totaled P3.3 billion.

“In addition to these, there are contingency funds that could be used for foreign travel. Mrs. Arroyo has realigned a total of P2.2 billion of these funds for her foreign trips,” he said.

He said he got his data from the Department of Budget and Management and the Senate finance committee, of which he was chairman for five years.

He added that Escudero’s P3-billion figure apparently did not include realignments from the contingency funds.

Meanwhile, Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez confirmed yesterday that President Arroyo and her large entourage had another expensive dinner in New York City other than the controversial $20,000 meal at the posh Le Cirque French restaurant.

“Yes, there was a second dinner in New York. But I was not there. I had other engagements,” he said.

He could not say where it was exactly or how much the presidential entourage paid.

Text messages purportedly coming from a staff member of the Philippine embassy in Washington claim that Mrs. Arroyo’s party enjoyed two dinners at Le Cirque.

The embassy supposedly paid for the New York City dinners, including the controversial meal on Aug. 2, for which Press Secretary Cerge Remonde claimed Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez shelled out $20,000.

The messages also claim it was the embassy that paid for a $3,500-a-night suite for the President and 60 $950-a-night rooms for her congressional companions at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos used to stay.

Suarez and Rep. Romualdez are among Mrs. Arroyo’s favorite congressional companions whenever she travels abroad.

On Thursday, Suarez claimed that he was the one who paid $15,000 for steaks and lobsters at a Washington DC restaurant last July 30.

    COA audit pushed

For a left-wing lawmaker, the Commission on Audit should form a special audit team to review the “lavish” spending of President Arroyo in her US trip.

Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño personally went to the office of COA chairman Reynaldo Villar, and handed him a two-page letter containing his request. He said he merely wanted the “whole truth about the controversies surrounding the US trip.”

He also invoked Republic Act 6713, or the Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which may have been violated by government officials who had partaken of the expensive meals in New York and Washington.

“Like most of our countrymen, I wonder, what other lavish expenses were made by the Philippine delegation?” he asked. Casiño finds the meal expenses “irregular, unnecessary, excessive, extravagant or unconscionable even if bills were footed by a private entity.”

Casiño, fellow Bayan Muna Rep. Satur Ocampo and Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza filed House Resolution 1315 that seeks to direct the House committee on good government to conduct an inquiry on the matter.

Casiño said it is well “within the jurisdiction of COA to determine, through a special audit, if public funds were irregularly used and if laws and policies were violated.”

Anakpawis Rep. Joel Maglunsod said Malacañang must present to the public a detailed accounting of all expenses of the President’s state and working travels abroad, including her latest trip to the US.

“The people deserve to know how much the President spent for her foreign travels,” he said.

“The expensive dinner at Le Cirque and the meal at Bobby Van’s Steak House in Washington are just the tip of the iceberg. Mrs. Arroyo and her entourage are definitely spending more than what they should during their junkets,” Maglunsod added.

“Whether the meals were paid for by private individuals or government officials, Mrs. Arroyo has a lot of explaining to do about her expenses during her trips and her swelling wealth,” he said.

“It is evident that Mrs. Arroyo and other public officials joining working and state visits violated Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees,” Maglunsod said.

    No excuse

“The report that the consulate in New York has been asked to foot the bill is disturbing, and if true, exposes the sham behind Malacañang’s claim that taxpayer’s money was not spent for the Le Cirque dinner,” Makati City Mayor and opposition leader Jejomar Binay said.
